Why boys need their mothers...

I got this on an e-mail from a friend, together with several really good pictures (one of them is above) and the title: "Why boys need their mothers..."
I found it to be hilarious. Perhaps because I have not been able to experience any of these yet. Apparently the mom from Austin Texas did...every single one of them...

You find out interesting things when you have sons, like...

1.) A king size waterbed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq. ft. house 4 inches deep.

2.) If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.

3.) A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.

4.) If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound Boy wearing Batman underwear and a Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can, to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.

5.) You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on. When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.

6.) The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.

7.) When you hear the toilet flush and the words "uh oh", it's already too late.

8.) Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.

9.) A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36-year old Man says they can only do it in the movies.

10.) Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old Boy.

11.) Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.

12.) Super glue is forever.

13.) No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.

14.) Pool filters do not like Jell-O.

15.) VCR's do not eject "PB & J" sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.

16.) Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.

17.) Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.

18.) You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.
19.) Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.

20.) The fire department in Austin , TX has a 5-minute response time.

21.) The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.

22.) It will, however, make cats dizzy.

23.) Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.

24.) 80% of Women will pass this on to almost all of their friends, with or without kids.

25.) 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.

Scary, really scary! :-)

What is new in our household

The friends who have kids know what I am talking about. There are weeks when so much happens, you feel like you could write a book about them!
The past couple of weeks have been like that in our house.

We have had to lower Oliver's crib mattress, because he now stands up and tries to get out of it. Cute, but scary!

Oliver has started walking with the walker, which made him earn new shoes. It took him a couple of walks to get used to having something weighing on his feet!

Noah is being potty-trained. I have to tell you, we are not really good at it. We actually suck at it. We get frustrated, and we even have sucumbed to bargaining. There is a surprise box in this house now...you pee you get a surprise, you poop you get a surprise...seriously...how bad do we really need the kid to stop doing it on the diaper? It is not like he is going to go to college on them. But I have to agree with Marcio...the kid's diapers stink really bad! :-)
I added a picture of him in his new cool Brazilian boxers. I was not going to mention that they lasted a whole 5 minutes before he peed on them...it was so cute though. He looks like such a big boy!

We found out that Noah will be transitioning to the new room at daycare at the end of the month. Wow, the 3's room! Unbelievable! He is ready, though. Really ready. I think he will walk right into it. No problems there.

Oliver is starting to try some solids like bread, pretzels, chicken, pizza crust.. :-)

I don't even need to tell you that he started refusing jar food already. Oliver, you are 9 months, filho! Slow down!

This past weekend we went to an Easter Egg Hunt organized by the MBI (Brazilian Moms of Indiana), and the kids had a blast. Noah really got into looking for the eggs and filling his basket and Oliver's. The kids also got a Brazilian Easter egg each (making mom and dad really excited!)

For the folks who have asked for proof that Oliver is dancing, talking and almost walking, I promise I will post some movies for you...tomorrow...

Noah is 29 months....but really going on 16 years-old!!!

I am now 9 months, and let me tell you, so much has happened this past month!

Time is going by so fast it is insane!
I can hardly believe Oliver is 9 months old, and Noah is 29 months old!!!
Marcio and I feel blessed every day for being chosen by our two boys. Because that is what my mom always thought us, that babies chose their parents...and I live every day hoping I can live up to both my boys expectations, because I feel truly blessed by their presence in my life.
This month Oliver had a lot of firsts:
  • He finally got to use the new carseat he got from grandma and grandpa at Christmas time,
  • He went for his first wagon ride with his big brother when it was nice outside
  • He went to the park and went on the swing for the first time
  • He crawled for us...which made him go from being frustrated with not being able to move at all, to being frustrated with not knowing how to walk yet!
  • He got his first bad boo-boo: an RSV that scared the heck out of all of us, causing him to need breathing treatments for a while
  • He started level 3 food (not too happy about it though)
  • He learned how to say "hi!" and "papa" (food in Portuguese baby language)
  • He went on his first shopping spree with mommy, daddy and Noah in Edinburgh to get him and his brother summer clothes
  • He cruised for the first time at daycare and walked with the walker at home
  • He ate a whole chicken nugget he stole from his brother at dinner time
  • He started sleeping 6 hours straight again for us!

Some other things Oliver has been doing lately and that makes mommy's heart melt:

  • Moving his hands with excitement when mommy is preparing his food
  • Holding mommy's hands when she is putting him to sleep as he takes his bottle
  • How his eyes light up when he sees me at daycare
  • How he crawls really fast to me and reaches up with his arms for me to hold him
  • Being so attached to mommy that she seems to be the only one who can make everything better for him (believe me, Oliver, you are the one who makes it all better for mommy!)
  • How he adores his big brother with all his heart, and everything Noah does seem to be so much funnier than what mommy and daddy do

For some reason I forgot to mention that back in January Oliver got his first two teeth. And that has been about it. No more tooth has planned on coming out again so far...which makes us all happy from a sleep prospective!

I know I have said this before, and I will never say it enough. Oliver, filho, you are a calming presence in our lives. We are incredibly lucky to have you in our family. You bring such peace and joy to all of us. Your smile is contagious. We love you with all our hearts. Happy 9 months, filho!!!
